Lynch & Aymar records, 1813-1819.

Records, July 1813 - January 1819. The firm was located in New Haven (Conn.) until 1814, when it moved to New York City; the partners were John Lynch, George Washington Lynch, Benjamin Aymar, and John Q. Aymar. The collection contains correspondence, receipts, accounts, cancelled checks, and other business papers. Most of the correspondence relates to domestic trade and trade with the West Indies, primarily Cuba, but there are a few letters from Livorno and printed sheets giving prices current there, and one letter from Samuel G. Ogden in Bordeaux. There are letters from: Cotheal & Russell, New York; John Patrick & Co., new York; Francis Stoughton; Jehiel Forbes & Son, New Haven; Isaiah Mankin, Baltimore; Captain Shubiel Swain; John B. Sartori, Trenton; John W. Richardson, Havana; George and John Rich, Baltimore; Thomas H. Howland, Alexandria (Va.). There is also an official letter dated 1818, from the Dutch chargeĢ d'affaires in Washington, appointing John Lynch the commercial agent representing the interests of Dutch subjects in Cuba. Several letters discuss the effects on trade of the War of 1812, political news, blockades, and privateering. An 1818 letter refers to "Spanish patriotic privateers" and war in Buenos Aires.
